Its character program is called R.A.I.S.E.: respect, accountability, integrity, service and excellence. Its sister school, Bonnie Cone Leadership Academy, carries the same model through high school.

State report card

North Carolina gives every public school, charter schools included, an A to F School Performance Grade. The grade is based 80% on student achievement and 20% on academic growth, according to the state’s 2025-26 annual testing report. For this school, achievement is measured by the state’s end-of-grade reading, math and science tests.

School year Grade and score Growth
2025-26 C (66) Met
2024-25 C (66) Exceeded

From the state’s 2025-26 school assessment workbook:

  • At grade level or above, all state tests: 64.1% (statewide, all tests: 59.2%)
  • College and career ready (Level 4 and above): 38.6%
  • Reading: 63.8% at grade level or above; math: 64.5%; fifth-grade science: 63.9%

The full report card, with class sizes, teacher data and school safety figures, is on the state’s NC School Report Cards site under state school code 61V000.

Admission

From the school’s enrollment page:

  • Open enrollment typically runs from November to January. Applications made in that window go into one pool, not in order of arrival.
  • Lottery: if applications for a grade exceed its seats, offers are made by random lottery and the rest go on a numbered waitlist. The school says no lottery was needed at BCCA or Bonnie Cone Leadership Academy for 2026-27.
  • After open enrollment: applications are still taken and handled first come, first served. The school says it is still accepting applications for 2026-27.
  • Kindergarten: children must be 5 by Aug. 31 of the year they start.
  • Documents: none are needed to apply. A family offered a seat registers through Infinite Campus with a birth certificate, immunization and health forms, proof of North Carolina residency and a parent photo ID.

There is no tuition and no attendance zone.
