Beltway Industrial Drive: one lane closed at Alexandriana Road

One lane of Beltway Industrial Drive at Alexandriana Road is closed while a new traffic signal is installed at the intersection, the town said Oct. 19. The town said the closure is for safety until the signal is working.

NCDOT and its contractors are doing the work. The town said it does not have a timeline. The lane will reopen once the signal is in place and functioning.

I-77: night work over for now

NCDOT’s night maintenance on I-77 in both directions from mile marker 11 to mile marker 30.4, a stretch that runs from north Charlotte through Huntersville, used moving closures in the left and right lanes and on ramps. The Monday and Tuesday night windows have ended, and DriveNC lists the last one, which began at 10 p.m. Thursday, as ending Friday, Oct. 23.

As of Friday, Oct. 23, DriveNC lists no further planned lane closures on I-77 through Huntersville. Incidents and short-notice work appear on DriveNC first, so check before a long trip.

Coming next: Beatties Ford Road and Gilead Road intersections

The Huntersville Board of Commissioners approved two Public Works contracts on its consent agenda Oct. 20, according to the meeting’s agenda packet and our report on the meeting:

New signal mast arms at three intersections Traffic Control Devices LLC $1,082,794.50 Dec. 30, 2027

The plans for Beatties Ford at Bud Henderson show an 11-foot right-turn lane and new traffic signal equipment. The signal mast arm job covers:

  • Gilead Road at Commerce Centre
  • Gilead Road at Beatties Ford Road
  • Beatties Ford Road at Hambright Road

Start dates and lane closures have not been announced. We will add them here when the town or the contractor posts them.

McCoy Road: surveyors at Hambright and McIlwaine

Surveyors are staking easement limits on McCoy Road at the Hambright Road and McIlwaine Road intersections over the next few weeks, the town’s Engineering Department said Oct. 21. The stakes mark land the town may need to talk to owners about acquiring. The town asks residents to leave them in place. Survey crews wear safety vests and carry ID badges. No lane closures have been announced. Questions go to project manager Olivia Williams at owilliams@huntersville.org.

Asbury Chapel Road bridge: closure as early as December

NCDOT awarded a $4.88 million contract to NJR Group Inc. to replace the bridge on Asbury Chapel Road over South Prong Clark Creek, the town said July 21.

  • Work can start as early as December 2026.
  • The road will be closed to through traffic while the bridge is replaced.
  • The contract requires the new bridge to open by December 2027; landscaping can run into spring 2028.
  • The signed detour will use Huntersville-Concord Road, Old Statesville Road (N.C. 115) and Eastfield Road.

The exact closure date has not been set. The town says it will announce it in advance; we will update this page when it does.

Recently finished: state resurfacing

NCDOT finished resurfacing Asbury Chapel Road, Hus McGinnis Road and Bud Henderson Road, the town said Sept. 16.

Town street resurfacing, 2026 and 2027

The town is resurfacing more of its own streets in 2026 and 2027, according to its street resurfacing page. Crews finished a round in February and March 2026. Since Labor Day they have been rebuilding street corner ramps, the first step before paving. That work affects people walking, not road traffic, and lasts about a week on each street once signs go up.

When your street is paved:

  • Work runs between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.; milling takes two to three days and paving one to two.
  • Do not park on the street. You can always leave and return home; tell a flagger.
  • Trash pickup and mail continue, sometimes a little late.

The town’s list and map of streets selected for resurfacing are on the same page. Questions go to Public Works, 704-875-7007.

New traffic pattern on Central Avenue

Central Avenue between Dellwood Drive and Holbrooks Road in Pottstown now has a single center lane for drivers, dashed advisory shoulders for people walking and biking, and speed humps, the town said Aug. 5. Drivers share the center lane in both directions and move into a shoulder only to pass an oncoming car, after yielding to anyone walking or biking there. The Board of Commissioners approved the change Feb. 17. The town is surveying residents on how it is working; responses are due Oct. 28, and staff are also going door to door along Central Avenue, the town said Oct. 6.

Planned: N.C. 115 widening, McCord Road to N.C. 73

The town plans to widen Old Statesville Road (N.C. 115) between McCord Road and N.C. 73 to a four-lane road with a median, with 10-foot multiuse paths on both sides, it said July 20. The project is still in its environmental assessment, and the town says it will take several years. You may see small noise-measuring devices along the road; no action is needed.

Nearby: Holiday Lane closed in Cornelius

In Cornelius, about five miles north, Holiday Lane is closed in both directions between Sterling Bay Lane East and East Catawba Avenue to complete a roundabout at Holiday Lane and Sterling Bay Lane, according to DriveNC. DriveNC lists the closure through Sept. 17, 2027, with a detour from Catawba Avenue to Holiday Lane.
