Safety

  • Decorations and jack-o’-lanterns: the N.C. Office of State Fire Marshal says glow sticks or electric candles are the safest light for a jack-o’-lantern, and to keep decorations away from open flames and heat sources. It cites national figures showing 44% of decoration fires started because decorations were too close to a heat source.
  • Registered sex offenders: the town links the state’s sex offender registry, which you can search by address.
  • Police: dial 911 to have an officer sent to any address, even if it is not an emergency; the Huntersville Police Department says that is the only way to get one dispatched. Its main line is 704-464-5400.
